Canmore 2021 World Para Nordic Skiing World Cup

The Season Opener to be held at the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park will welcome the world’s best  skiers from around the world to compete for 6 days in December 2021.

CANMORE, ALBERTA November 15, 2021 – The world’s best para athletes are back in the  Canadian Rockies, as the Canmore 2021 World Para Nordic Skiing World Cup returns to the  Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park on December 4 – 12, 2021, hosted by the Alberta World  Cup Society.

Building from the successes of the 2017 event, the 2021 event promises six days of cross country ski, biathlon racing and winter celebration. This is the first World Cup of the season,  providing an exceptional opportunity for over 125 athletes from 15 nations to prepare for the  2022 Winter Paralympic Games.

Canmore’s legacy of hosting premiere Nordic competitions has expanded in 2021, with the  health and safety of all participants and the citizens of Alberta of utmost concern. The Alberta  World Cup Society has worked diligently with its stakeholders and the local, provincial, and  federal health authority to create a comprehensive COVID-19 risk management plan.  This year’s event is free to enter, with COVID-19 safety measures in place to safeguard public  health. A free event livestream is also available on four race days during this year’s event.

The Alberta World Cup Society’s mandate is to bring World Cup events to Canmore, and the  2021 event is the latest in a long tradition of promoting high calibre events in the Bow Valley. “We have an excellent track record of bringing World Cup Cross-Country Ski events to Canmore,  having held 5 FIS World Cups and 2 Para-Nordic World Cups since the 2005 Alberta Centennial  World Cup. Our facilities continue to be among the best in the world and we appreciate the  hard work done by the Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park staff working with our event  team to achieve the highest international standard of hosting excellence,” said Norbert Meier,  Events Chair for the Alberta World Cup Society.
