Introducing the Babs Ranking System (BRS)!
What is the BRS?
The BRS is a series of progressive benchmarks in both classic and skate techniques for all performance-oriented skiers of all abilities and ages; the BRS is a tool to set personal improvement targets; A database that maintains a record of progression (level); the BRS allows skiers to see their competitive speed improvement progressively over their entire racing career; the BRS allows skiers to perform in their strength events as well as to challenge themselves in multiple distances/formats; the BRS is intended as a motivational tool for all skiers.
How do I participate?
We are presenting this tool as an engaging challenge the 2021-22 ski season. This is a piloting project initiated in collaboration with Cross Country Alberta and Zone4, and made available for all divisions, clubs and individual skiers in Canada.
The challenge will be live starting with Ab Cup 1-2 and continuing through the season. Participants will receive their rating based on their highest level achieved (regardless of the distance or technique), i.e. a participant’s rating reflects their single all time best achievement; Participants will receive a BRS badge reflecting their rating; (sent to the Clubs). Based on participation and results, the intention is to expand the tool next season, building on the achieved participant rankings; And it is FREE!
Recommendations for Clubs & Coaches:
- Coaches/clubs host time trials with athletes targeting specific distances which are most developmentally appropriate to athletes/participants; Invite parents to participate;
- Create a divisional participation challenge with various challenges spread over the three weekends (see Nordiq Alberta Alberta for an example);
- Provide participation prizes;
- Encourage the spirit of self challenge and personal targets;
- By establishing familiarity with the tool within clubs it will be much easier to draw participation when mass events are again accessible (next season).
- The tool can be applied to any races which are timed by Zone4 (regional, provincial, loppets, etc.)
- Physical crests available starting next season.
