Ft. McMurray AB Cup Weather Update

The Organizing Committee (OC) has met with the Jury and, while we have to take the weather we get, we do recognize the decisions that families are weighing in travelling to Fort McMurray for the upcoming Alberta Cup Races. To this end we can share that there have been warmer temperatures measured at the venue through the day today compared to what is reports from the Airport on most weather apps and Environment. Updates throughout Thursday and Friday to be shared via Ptarmigan Nordic social media channels (facebook and Instagram).

That said, to reduce some of the risk of undue expense in the event of cancellation due to cold weather, we are implementing a refund window until 1:00 pm Friday Feb 18, 2022. That is, registrants are able to cancel their registration and receive a ‘near full refund’ of fees (race registration and snow enhancement fees less Zone4 processing fees and a $5 per cart admin fee).

Please note that this only includes participants that elect to cancel in full prior to the Friday 1:00 pm cut off. The specific process will be added to the Zone4 2022 Alberta Cup 7 & 8 event page. The OC remains hopeful that temperatures at the venue will allow for all categories to race as planned and to make race day decisions based on the actual conditions at the venue.

Cancellations after Friday at 1:00 pm will follow the guidelines set out in the Nordiq Alberta Tech Package.

The OC has also extended the registration to 1:00 pm Thursday Feb 17, 2022 to allow for those receiving this communication late to still register. Ptarmigan Nordic is the host venue for the 2023 Arctic Winter Games and we are really excited to hold Alberta Cup 7 & 8 in Fort McMurray.
